“Is my box alright?”

On the docket this week is the perfectly serviceable 2012 film The Possession, the chosen choice of last week’s Final Girl After Dark special guest. I saw the film way back when and reviewed it at The Ol’ Blog Place, saying

While The Possession certainly didn't thrill me, I did not hate it or even actively dislike it, I suppose...but that's just not good enough in this post-Exorcist world! The power of Pazuzu compels you to go big or go home and you, The Possession, need to be stuffed back into your Dybbuk box and...and...ugh why didn't this movie end with the Dybbuk box exploding like the [Amityville 4] possessed floor lamp did? Now that would have earned this flick a spot in the Demonic Hall of Fame for sure.

I find these are still my feelings, as made evident in this here episode about it! But it turns out that I had even more feelings about it this time: Feelings about religious horror movies that are supposed to be true, the commodification of stuff, found footage, Amityville, and why I’m okay with certain true stories that are not at all true stories and not okay with others. Didn’t see all that coming!
